SIA
was contacted by community members who were trying to
help a Vietnamese woman whose husband had left for a
retreat in the Sierra Mountains and had not returned
when he said he would. The local police insisted that
her husband probably had left her for another woman.
The woman knew that could not be so due to her husband
and family having strong Christian convictions. The
police offered little to no assistance for her.
SIA armed with volunteers began searching for clues.
Due to the fact that the victims credit cards had not
been used, we suspected the possibility of an automobile
accident. We began searching an area in the High Sierra
Mountains where the victim frequented for his annual
retreat to spend time alone with God.
After searching the mountainous areas, and chartering
a helicopter, we located the victim. He had slipped
into a deep ravine, and unable to climb out, he froze
to death. The family was able to bring closure to this
horrible event that shattered their lives.
Eventually, the Chief of Police offered his apology
on behalf of his department for not handling this case
properly in the first place. He promised that there
would be specific changes instituted to prevent this
from ever happening again. |
