Former and current employees say they are not good samaritans at all!

We have been receiving information from a number of the Good Samaritan Society facilities throughout the country. In addition, we just received another complaint letter regarding the SImla facility. For details, click here.

We are asking that any current or former employees of the Good Samaritan Facility click on the above flashing link to report any misconduct, mistreatment of staff and or residents at any of the Good Samaritan facilities across the United States. Employees from all facilities can click here to print out a flier to give out to staff members or residents to report any information to us via our toll free number.

Below you will find information regarding how this case came to fruition. We have never experienced such stonewalling and total disregard for serious complaints that were brought to the direct attention of the top corporate level of the Good Samaritan Society. In addition, many witnesses in this case who came forward reported telling the corporate office of their concerns, and then facing retaliation and harassment from the current administrator and her close associates. If you should have any questions, please feel free to contact us via email.

UPDATE: The "Town Meeting" held with staff on January 29, 2007 focused more on who was leaking information to SIA than any substantive seeking for resolution. We have received a final response from the Good Samaritan Society stating that they believe all of our allegations are fictitious and they have closed the case. We strongly discourage anyone from placing a family member in the care of the Good Samaritan Society based on their refusal to conduct an unbiased investigation and refusal to properly hold their Administrator accountable. SIA is evaluating the feasibility of filing legal action.

S.I.A. contacted the Good Samaritan Society via their attorney requesting a conference call to discuss our concerns. We advised them that we were in the process of posting our video, and we would like to discuss our concerns in hopes of their resolving the issues which would alleviate our obligation to post the video. They were non-responsive.

On January 9, 2007, apparently the State of Colorado has accepted their plan of corrective action in response to the state survey which found serious discrepancies at the Simla Facility. We are still awaiting a copy of this survey and the plan of corrective action.

On January 16, 2007, a note was posted at the Simla Facility inviting staff to a "Town Meeting" to discuss the issues. Interestingly, the Administrator who is the focus of much of the allegations will be attending the meeting. The Good Samaritan Society is hoping for honest dialogue when employees have complained of hostile working environments under the direction of this Administrator. The lack of oversight by the Good Samaritan Society and the lack of them taking action in this case have been appalling.

We had received a letter from the Good Samaritan Society advising us of their intent on conducting a thorough investigation regarding the allegations brought forth by a number of people. Since that time, we have received additional correspondence from their attorney requesting we remove any contents regarding the Simla Good Samaritan facility from our website. The letter also attempts to discredit any allegations made against the Simla Facility because the original complainant of this case was the sister of SIA Director Kevin LaChapelle. They also went so far as to allege that the entries submit to the SIA blog were fictitious.

After sending out a questionnaire regarding the allegations we received, a number were returned to out office with consistent statements corroborating the initial allegations. We are not as confident that the Good Samaritan Society will be fair in their investigation of these allegations primarily due to their adversarial stand to silence any critics. We would ask any person with information regarding the Simla facility to contact our office as we are uncertain as to the credibility of the Good Samaritan's Compliance Hotline. You can call our office at 888-708-7742, or email us.

SIA has received information from staff members and family members of elderly residents regarding allegations of emotional abuse from the Simla Facility Administrator to patients and staff alike. During our investigation we have learned that many individuals we have spoken with are afraid of retaliation if they get involved. SIA will vigorously protect any individual bringing us information regarding this case. Our legal counsel will be working closely with us in monitoring the progress of this case. If you have any information regarding this facility or any other Good Samaritan facility, please contact us by clicking here.

In addition, the State of Colorado conducted a survey of the Simla facility from November 6-9, 2006 and found numerous violations regarding late medications, neglect, not reporting significant health changes to family members, dietary sanitation, and much more. A State Survey conducted in January 2006 revealed a number of concerns as well.

This case was initially brought forth by Leslie Erwin who was employed at the Simla Facility until recently. Leslie is the sister of S.I.A. Director Kevin LaChapelle. After this case was posted on our web site, numerous statements corroborating Leslie's concerns have been received.

In the past ten years in which SIA has been operating, we have never experienced comments on our blog with such heated emotions. SIA has always believed in publishing all comments on both sides of the issue. However, in this case after careful consideration, we are blocking view of all comments made. Comments are welcome. However, they will not be published for public view. The heated emotions displayed on the many comments are indicative of the serious deficiency in leadership at the Simla Facility, and the lack of proper oversight by the Good Samaritan Society corporate office. To view an email from Leslie Erwin stating her intentions, click here.

We have received many calls from previous employees who are upset that the Good Samaritan Corporate office failed to interview them regarding their experience at the Simla Facility. We will be in the Simla area in late December and will interview many of the past employees. To schedule an appointment, please email or call us. We are still hopeful that the investigation being conducted by the Good Samaritan Society will address the many concerns raised during this inquiry. If it does not, we stand ready to initiate legal action.
